A Letter to the Girl I Once Was

My dear little girl,

You carried burdens that were never meant for a child. There were times you felt unseen, unheard, and alone. You questioned why life demanded so much from you and whether your dreams were important. They do.

One day, you will discover that your greatest strength is not what happened to you, but what you choose to do because of it. Do not let hardship harden your heart. Allow it to deepen your compassion. Do not let disappointment take your hope. Let it strengthen your courage.

Do not believe that your circumstances define your future. They do not.

You will fight for your education. You will rebuild your life. You will learn that every challenge you overcome prepares you to open doors for someone else. One day, you will establish the Digital Humanity Initiative Foundation, not to create an organisation, but to provide opportunities you once needed yourself.

You will dedicate your life to restoring dignity where it has been lost, creating opportunity where it has been denied, and building futures for girls, women, widows, and underserved communities.

Never forget this truth:

  • Potential is universal. Opportunity is not.
  • Your purpose is to help bridge that gap.
  • If history remembers your name, let it be for the lives that flourished because you chose to serve, not for your personal achievements.
  • Keep believing.
  • Keep learning.
  • Keep leading.

“The little girl who waited for someone to open a door for her became the woman who chose to hold the door open for others.”

With love,

Abasenor Gold McDonald-Anyanwu
