Turning Adversity into Opportunity, One Life at a Time
My name is Abasenor Gold McDonald-Anyanwu née Akpaide, and my life’s mission is to create opportunities for those who have been overlooked, unheard, and left behind.
This mission was not born in a classroom or inspired by a business idea. It was shaped by my own journey through adversity, resilience, and hope.
I lost my father while I was still in my teenage years, and without my mother’s protection, I found myself carrying responsibilities far beyond my age. As the only daughter in my family, I became a caregiver to my younger brothers before I had the opportunity to discover my own dreams. Circumstances beyond my control led me into an abusive marriage, where I experienced physical and emotional hardship. Despite these challenges, I refused to allow my circumstances to define my future.
I worked tirelessly, taking on different businesses and selling whatever I could to finance my education because I believed education was the key to changing my life. Eventually, I found the courage to leave that marriage and begin rebuilding my future.
Later, after arriving in Europe, I was identified as a victim of human trafficking linked to family exploitation. During one of the most difficult periods of my life, compassionate organisations and dedicated professionals supported me with dignity and humanity. Their kindness transformed not only my circumstances but also my perspective. They reminded me that one act of genuine support can change the course of a person’s life.
That experience gave me a new purpose.
I realised that I wanted to become the kind of person I had needed when I was younger—someone who believes in people, stands beside them, and helps them discover their own potential.
This vision led me to establish my NGO, dedicated to empowering women and underserved communities through education, digital inclusion, entrepreneurship, technology, and wellbeing. I believe that empowerment is not about giving people temporary assistance; it is about equipping them with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and opportunities to build independent and fulfilling lives.
One of my greatest joys has been mentoring a young woman and supporting both her and her mother. Watching her prepare to enter university has reinforced my belief that lasting change begins with one person, one family, and one community at a time.
Today, my work is driven by the conviction that every woman deserves the opportunity to learn, every young person deserves the chance to realise their potential, and every community deserves access to the tools needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
My academic background in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Forensics, together with my published research on women’s empowerment and my ongoing research interests in human-centred AI, cybersecurity, digital wellbeing, and behavioural science, reflects my commitment to combining research with practical community impact. I believe that technology should serve humanity not the other way around and that innovation must be ethical, inclusive, and accessible to all.
This organisation exists because I know what it means to face barriers that seem impossible to overcome. It exists because I have experienced the life changing impact of someone choosing to help. Most importantly, it exists because I believe that every empowered woman creates opportunities not only for herself but also for her family, her community, and the next generation.
I may not be able to change the whole world, but if we work together, we can change one life, one family, and one community at a time. Those individual transformations will become the foundation of lasting societal change.
